Bank API terms · draft of 24 October 2026, under review by counsel
Terms for the look-up and confirmation API.
These terms apply to the API described in the reference, alongside our terms of use. They are written for banks, their technology partners and makers of accounting and payment software.
1. What the API does
The look-up call answers, for a Seedha code, which account it denotes, whether its holder's name has been verified and what that name is, which organisation registered it, and whether it carries open reports. The confirmation call records that a customer of yours saved the beneficiary, so a code can be traced if it is later reported. The API never initiates, authorises or settles a payment, and nothing it returns is an instruction to pay.
2. Who may use it, and at what price
Any bank regulated by the Reserve Bank of India, and any software maker acting for payers or receivers, may use the look-up call free of charge within the published rate limits. The confirmation call needs a key issued to you; keep it secret, use one per system, and tell us at once if it leaks. We may offer higher limits and service levels under a written agreement.
3. What you may do with the answers
Show them to the customer who is about to pay or save the beneficiary, cache them for no longer than the response headers allow, and log them for your own fraud and dispute handling. Do not build a directory or dataset of accounts from look-ups, resell the answers, or use them to contact account holders. Show the verified name beside, not instead of, the name your own systems return; the payer's bank remains responsible for the beneficiary check the Reserve Bank requires of it.
4. Accuracy
A verified name is the name the account-holding bank reported on the date shown. We do not warrant that an account is still open, that the holder is who they claim to be in business, or that a payment will be credited. You decide what your customer sees and what your system does.
5. The format and the name
You may implement the Seedha code format freely under its open licence and say that your product reads Seedha codes. The names Seedha and SeedhaPay and the "Seedha Verified" badge may be shown only as our trademark policy allows.
6. Changes and ending
We version the API and keep a version working for at least twelve months after we announce its successor. We may suspend a key used in breach of these terms. Contact: hello@seedhapay.in.
